India with its teeming multitudes is a land of variation. At one end of the spectrum, it is poised to lead the world in software, boasts of the largest metropolitan urban centers, and the richest individuals. On the other end of this spectrum is 70% of its rural population, with probably the lowest literacy and income levels in the world.
It was this weakest link in the world’s largest democracy that Mahatma Gandhi wanted the benefits of development to reach. He understood that the nation could become strong only by strengthening its weakest link.
VSPM Academy of Higher Education (VSPM AHE), Nagpur has made this its objective and mission. Since its inception in 1971, it has tirelessly worked among the most backward regions to provide opportunities for self-reliance through education and social upliftment.
Over three decades of efforts have resulted in the setting up of 55 institutions, ranging from pre-primary schools to medical colleges, women empowerment programs, and innumerable initiatives for the removal of social evils.
The Trust – A Historical Perspective
Founded by Dr. Bhausaheb Bhoge in 1971, the VSPM Academy of Higher Education (formerly Vidya Shikshan Prasarak Mandal) is a registered trust under the Indian Societies Registration Act 1860 and Bombay Public Trust Act 1950.
Late Padmashree Kamlatai Hospet was its first president. Since 1981, Shri Ranjeet Deshmukh has been leading the trust with a mission to provide education, social awareness, and upliftment to backward and underprivileged sections.
The trust focuses on unity, child education, professional training, cooperative movements, welfare programs, and cultural awareness. It also emphasizes women empowerment and poverty eradication initiatives.
The Trust – Today
Today, VSPM AHE is managed by prominent citizens committed to serving the less privileged. Under the visionary leadership of Ranjeet Deshmukh, the trust has grown into a powerhouse of education and social work.
It runs more than 50 institutions, including primary schools, high schools, junior colleges, science & commerce colleges, medical college, nursing college, physiotherapy college, training centers, and even a super-speciality hospital.
With over 1,00,000 students educated and 15,000 currently enrolled, VSPM AHE continues to transform lives and strengthen society.
